Upon completion, another deal of face-up cards goes round the table. The player with the highest scoring visible card acts next, beginning the second round of betting. Two more rounds of face-up cards is dealt in the same way. At the end of game, the one with the highest scoring hand wins the pot. The highest scoring hand is determined by each player laying all five cards on the table face up.

Ideal Strategies in 5 Card Stud

Because the game consists of only five cards in a hand, you can pretty much forget about drawing to straights and flushes. This fact may seem to make 5-card stud more straightforward than other poker types, but really all it means is that you need to concentrate on drawing to three of a kind, pairs, high cards or any combination thereof. It is a wise move to restrain your betting toward draw hands with their low odds, but you should bet with less constraint toward dual draws where the odds are far better to draw a straight or a different, stronger hand altogether.

Early in the game, it is not unusual to find a player betting towards pair hands, high cards, or the same in some combination. Thus, it will greatly behoove you to heed intensely the cards your opponents are holding and set your sights on the pot only if you don’t draw an ace or better at your first three draws. The nature of the game, conservative, gives you the chance to bluff and if you expose your bluffs, it can aid you in more effective bluffs and semi bluffs and/or formulating that aggressive strategy when your hand is powerful.

Traditional players are apt to prefer stud for its directness allowing them to pick up on their opponents’ tells and signals. There is lots of discussion within the media lately regarding possibly creating changes for the overtime rules in NFL games. But in this new situation, you now have a game where the total went up as high as 50+ all in a time period that is meant to be what you use when you have no time left on the regulation clock.

Having said all this, I want to go on the record for two things. 1) the overtime system is broken as it stands now. When you have the toss of the coin become more important than anyone on the field, then you have a serious problem. Odds show that the winner of the coin toss in the NFL overtimes wins the game sixty percent of the time! Actually, more than thirty percent of the time the team that loses the flip has never even touched the ball.

When it comes to sports handicapping, I may allow it to be similar to the rules for soccer when it comes to gambling. In soccer matches, when there is a strong chance of OT or penalty kicks, the line doesn’t even consider additional frames. This is why they use a “draw line”. So when the game is over, and ends with a tie after ninety minutes, the two teams might continue to play to determine a winner, but for betting reasons alone the game is done – pretty interesting, huh?

So I offer that the NFL should follow the same rule, especially when the over time program is changed. After an hour, the game is continued on for gambling reasons. There are no falsely adjusted scores which make a joke of the wagering lines. Although the rules should be adjusted to focus on the team members and not the toss of the coin, I think the gambling rules should also improve to stay on top of the changes.

Picture the ball landing on an even number, the odds of this happening are 50%. Now picture the ball landing on an even number twice in a row, the odds of this happening are less than 50%. This is what makes it look like the ball is more likely to land odd after going even. However if you do the math you will find that the ball going even and then even again is just as likely to happen as the ball going even and then odds.
